For 5 years I was working in mobile (wap) industry and few times I got messages with questions how to create mobile site.
First of all I will not talk about mobile site programming and coding, I will tell you few thinks what you should know about building wap site.

Screen size
You should understand that mobile phone don’t have such big screen as your personal computer. Then I’m making phone design template for mobile site with image editor program (e.g. Photoshop) I take width 200px window and make design on it, but don’t forget that mobile phone will not resize pictures on mobile page so it is better to use small pictures and put colors on backgrounds.

Validate
Have you ether got error on mobile page? – This problem is because the page you were trying to visit was not valid. By making mobile pages you should always test validation of your page. I suggest to use W3 validator.

Have you ever tied to add Function element to your mobile site? Function element has different settings:

Last update date and time
This mobile function will show to your mobile website visitor then was the last time you have updated your mobile site content or design. I suggest to add this function at thebottom of your WAP site.

Date and time
Isn’t it cool to show current time on your mobile page? By adding this function to your wapsite you can show what is the time now. I suggest you to not forget about that cool function than you are creating mobile site.

Remote Address (IP)
By one click your mobile site can have item which will write visitors’ IP address on your mobile site. For E.g.: 78.53.44.123

User Agent
If you have opportunity for downloading games, themes, etc. at your mobile website, I suggest t0 use this function. This mobile function will show your mobile site visitor his browser, operating system name and brand.

Device brand and model
I now that a lot of visitors don’t know his mobile phone model. So to suggest what wapsite visitor has to download I suggest you to use this super function. It will help to choose right file.

Send sms
Just add send sms function element then you are building mobile site. And your site visitor will be able to write SMS by just clicking on the “Write me sms” link. Is’t it cool function for mobile site?

Make a call
This function is very similer to Send sms function. Just write you telephone number on this mobile function settings and mobile site visitor we be able with one click on the link “Call me” to make a call for you.

Send an email
Put a link to mobile page “Write me an email“. One click and user will get window to write email for you.

Sweeney Research published that 20 percent of users had visited MySpace via mobile, 15 percent of them are visiting more then once a day. By MySpace traffic counters we ca see that around 150000 Australians come to MySpace mobile wap site in December.
